This is a composition depicting a scene of traditional Russian hunting - the 2 borzoi dogs, a breed that is traditionally Russian and which name at once arouses our associations with Russia, are chasing a fox.
The borzois and the fox are caught in motion, between one movement and the next; and the artist made every effort to convey the sense of speed, tension, exhilaration and excitement of the chase, the grace of the borzois and the agility of a little fox.

Борзая и лиса запечатлены в порыве движения; мастер старался передать ощущение скорости, напряжения и азарта погони, грацию борзых и проворство маленькой лисы.
This composition in which separate sculptures of the animals (the whole or a part of the body) are used has the effect of space and movement. The boar and the dogs are carved of wood and are fixed onto the moose antler which is carved as a wood background.
